Journey overview

From border roads to a moonlit Himalayan dawn.

The route enters Nepal at Belahiya, pauses in Pokhara, spends two nights in Ghandruk and then follows the Kali Gandaki corridor through Lower Mustang. A Tatopani hot-spring night softens the return before the trip positions in Sarangkot for its final moon-and-sunrise window.

No trek is scheduled. Short local walks remain at Ghandruk, village stops and the uphill temple approach from Ranipauwa to Muktinath. Vehicle access, porter help or pony assistance should be confirmed where needed.

Why this day matters

Entry day into Nepal, with the same Nepal-side 4x4 meeting the group at Belahiya for the full circuit.

The day is practical: Indian-side transfer, border formalities, luggage reload into the Nepal 4x4 and the first relaxed evening beside Phewa Lake.

Day plan

  1. Indian-side vehicle report at Gorakhpur; luggage and document check.

  2. Depart for Sunauli / Belahiya border.

  3. Border formalities, meet the Nepal-registered 4x4 at Belahiya and reload luggage.

  4. Tea stop on Nepal side; continue to Pokhara with the same 4x4 that remains through the trip.

  5. Lunch en route.

  6. Arrive Pokhara and check in, depending on border and highway timing.Conditional

  7. If arrival allows, buy and test a Nepal Telecom SIM near Lakeside; otherwise ask the driver for an earlier outlet.

  8. Early dinner near the hotel.

  • The Dec 24 moon and sunrise timings are planning estimates for Sarangkot and remain weather-dependent.
  • Public hot-spring hours, Mustang Eco Museum winter opening and pony or local assistance at Muktinath require direct confirmation.
  • Current Indian-national land-border ID rules and ACAP requirements must be rechecked before departure.
  • Google Maps links use reliable destination or property search links; exact pins should be confirmed with each hotel or driver before travel.
